Formula1.net covers the latest addition to the BMW Sauber Formula One racing team: a supercomputer named Albert 2.
BMW-Sauber have invested approximately $10 million in a new supercomputer named Albert 2. Albert 2 was bought in place of a second wind tunnel, and he will live in their headquarters in Switzerland. Albert 2 is three times faster than his previous incantation, Albert. He will help BMW-Sauber by simulating air flow, therefore helping their aerodynamic designs and testing.
Albert 2 has 256 dual core Xeon nodes (which explains the Intel logo all over the front of the car), for a total of 1,024 processing cores. HPCwire has some in depth coverage from last month.
