Fujitsu gets closer to one terabit per sq inch

There’s a lot of odd stuff going on in supercomputing these days. Before long we’re going to need to start have primers in quantum mechanics at SC just to keep up with technology briefings.

Speaking of the quantum, Fujitsu is getting closer to really small storage:

With this latest patterned media announcement, Fujitsu has successfully realized a nanohole pattern with 25 nanometer pitch, a process which will enable one Terabit/in2 recording on HDDs in the future.

Typical areal storage densities right now (in devices you can buy) span 100 Gbit/in2 to around 300 Gbits/in2.
