Sun's in the black

For those of you who keep track of this sort of thing, Sun reported Tuesday that they made money in the 2nd fiscal quarter of 2007.

Net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2007 on a GAAP basis was $126 million or $0.03 per share on a diluted basis, as compared with a net loss of $223 million, or ($0.07) per share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2006.

The year-over-year revenue bump is mostly from sales of the SPARC chip multithreading (CMT) servers and x64-based servers. The kinds of chips that sell into the HPC market that Sun is so energetically chasing.

This situation will probably only get better as they book the $54M from TACC’s purchase later this year.
