Cray to build with lower power AMD offerings

Cray issued a press release yesterday, the meat of which is:

…the company will support the new standard and low-power AMD Opteron(TM) processors. Cray will offer AMD Opteron processor Models 1220 (103 Watts) and 1218 HE (68 Watts) in future versions of the company’s Cray XT4(TM) supercomputer series.

An OK step that all the kids are taking these days, but we still need to keep pushing to address everything else: as we drop consumption on the processor, disks, memory, and so on, are consuming an increasing fraction of the overall machine’s electron diet.
