Sun boots up ROCK

According to a story over at Forbes.com, Sun announced yesterday that it had booted Solaris on the first silicon prototype of its ROCK processor.

You may recall that ROCK is Sun’s forthcoming 16-core processor, the successor to its T1 and upcoming Niagara 2 processors. The T1 supports up to four threads in each of eight cores, and the Niagara 2 supports up to eight threads per core with all major system functions on the processor itself.
