IBM's new HPC storage product

This week IBM announced a new storage configuration. The IBM System Storage DCS9550 Storage System comes in a 4U controller and 3U disk expansion drawers. According to the company, it is designed for HPC applications “such as genome medical research, government research and rich media applications.”

From the product web site

The DCS9550 Fibre Channel (FC) controller Model CP1 attaches to the DCS9550 Storage Expansion Units, which are available in FC disk and SATA disk models, and scale up to 320 disks, giving you up to 160 TB of physical storage capacity with a single controller.

The system is attachable to Blue Gene and Deep Computing products from IBM, System p HPC systems, System x 1350 Linux clusters.
