An IBM first: the AIX6 public beta

The Register is reporting today that IBM is taking a bold step into the late 20th century and offering its AIX6 in a free public beta.

Historically, IBM will hand deliver beta AIX code to thirty [or] forty of its largest customers. We revealed the public beta plan back in May and also documented the new OS’s rather Solaris 10-like feel. All of the new tools covered in that story will be available via the AIX beta.

And here’s what IBM is saying about the move.
