Holes in the Top500

HPCwire editor Michael Feldman has an interesting piece in the most recent edition on what stats he’d like to see in the Top500. Most of us know that the Linpack at the core of the Top500 ranking doesn’t accurately reflect real world performance of the machines listed for most customer workloads. So that’s his item number 1; he’d like to see broader coverage of the Top500 systems on the HPC Challenge benchmarks.

Other items on his wish list? Performance per watt, and the changing shape of the “Sub500” — those systems being deployed that don’t make the list but are doing HPC nonetheless.

It’s an interesting article.
