insideHPC.com has learned that Appro will announce a new 1U server on Monday targeted at HPC in small and medium-sized businesses. (That’s right people, I used the future tense; we’re moving into the big leagues at the web site here with product pre-announcements.)

Appro logoAppro’s new 1U XtremeServer 1512H has one socket for a dual or quadcore Opteron processor, support for up to 1.5TB hot-swap SATA HDDs and up to 32GB of memory.

“The HPC server and cluster market continues to grow at high rates, and many users are moving to larger memory size and higher processor counts to support their growing application requirements”, said Earl Joseph, IDC Program Vice President. “The Appro 1U XtremeServer 1512H is an example of new servers that are designed to provide a higher level of computational density that enables customers to scale out small to medium sized clusters with a focus on price/performance, reducing power consumption and improving productivity.”
