The Green Grid releases latest technology studies

This week The Green Grid announced the completion of three of their key technology deliverables. You may recall that back in August TGG announced its near term road map and product delivery schedule. That schedule had 4 deliverables in Q3 of this year.

The following papers are now available on their web site

  • Qualitative Analysis of Power Distribution Configurations for Data Centers
  • Existing Data Center Energy Efficiency Metrics
  • An updated version of the Data Center Efficiency Metrics White Paper

According to the release the papers cover the following topics

The Green Grid logoQualitative Analysis of Power Distribution Configurations for Data Centers, identifies seven high-level configurations for power distribution in the data center.

…Existing Data Center Energy Efficiency Metrics …is the industry’s first consolidated look at all existing organizations and metrics that are focused on energy efficiency in data centers and related IT equipment.

…The updated version of the Data Center Efficiency Metrics White Paper refines the metrics first introduced by The Green Grid in February 2007 by more explicitly highlighting infrastructure efficiency.

The other significant development is that The Green Grid has announced they’ve signed an MOU with the Information Technology Industry Council

The Green Grid also today announced the consortium has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), an organization dedicated to public policy advocacy on behalf of its membership of leading high-tech companies. The Green Grid expects the MOU will help align the two organizations’ positions and affirm the respective and distinct role each organization is playing to help the IT industry address the demand for energy efficiency.

This move may come in response to criticism leveled at TGG by Gartner earlier this year for not taking an active enough role in the policy-making aspects of IT.
