Supermicro taking on HPC with Quad-Socket Blades

Supermicro Computer is gearing up to take on the likes of IBM, HP and Dell in HPC [and other high density computing environments] with its latest blade offering.   Their latest blade design puts four sockets of quad-core Barcelona compute onto a single blade and 10 blades to a 7U rack chassis [160 cores per chassis].  The same blade chassis will also support the Opteron 8200 dual core model as well.

In one were to fully populate a 42U rack, you could walk out the door with 960 cores of compute [ignoring any cooling compensation].  This equates to roughly 8.8 Teraflops of peak compute per cabinet.
