In order to ensure the success of China’s new polar-orbiting meteorological satellite program, the China National Satellite Meteorological Center [NMSC] has deployed SGI high performance computing and storage equipment. The resulting system ranks as the largest shared-memory computer in China, and the fourth fastest in the country. The SGI Altix 4700 is comprised of 1,280 Itanium2 cores and 4TB of shared memory. NMSC also purchased 26TB of SGI InfiniteStorage with CXFS.
