Intel Talks on Larrabee

intelIntel has “officially” announced some of the details associated with their upcoming Larrabee graphics processor line.  First, it supports OpenGL and DirectX… neat, graphics for *NIX and Windows folks.  They go on to say:

 Although the Larrabee core is similar to that of that of the Pentium, the new core boasts significant enhancements, including a wide vector processing unit, 64-bit extensions, multithreading and pre-fetching….

Sounds tastey, but is it too good to be true?  Is the X86 instruction set efficient enough to control a wide array of vector and/or streaming operations?  Is this thing just SSE3 on steroids?  Intel, give us more details!!
