Pitt Leads in Study on Use of Vaccines

pittThe University of Pittsburgh has received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for their research regarding the use of vaccines to control infectious disease outbreaks. The simulations for the research will be performed on the supercomputers at Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. The grant weighs in at a hefty $10 million.

The initial study will focus on the flu, measles and dengue. Eventually, the researchers will investigate whooping cough, polio, malaria and tuberculosis. Partners for the study include Penn State University and the Imperial College London.
