Cray has a new face on the web

Didn’t notice this before, but Cray has a new web site. Nice, modern feel with Flash content and the bells and whistles you’d expect of a consumer site, not a stodgy HPC manufacturer.

IBM and HP’s HPC teams are trapped in the hell of enterprise standards in large companies. Cray and SGI aren’t, but their web sites to date have not reflected a key advantage for them in this market: they are independent and small. Rather than saying, “we’re smart, hip, and nimble” their web sites have said “we’re happy to limp over the low bar that everyone else has set.” This redesign gives Cray a modern face that reflects what should be a core company value. Good job.

The redesign was done by Lux, a design firm in Seattle.
