Cray announced today to further their cooperative venture with the Korea Meteorological Administration [KMA].  The venture, called the Earth System Research Center [ESRC], will receive a third round of funding.  The ESRC was established in 2005 marked with the task of advancing the science of earth-system modeling over the East-Asia Pacific region.

The third round of projects will continue to fulfill the ESRC’s objective to advance the science of earth-system modeling for the East-Asia Pacific region, as well as promoting collaboration in the Korean academic community,” said Dongil Lee, director, Numerical Prediction System Management Division at KMA. “The new studies that have recently been launched demonstrate the range and depth of the research efforts fostered by the KMA and Cray collaboration. Progress in the field of earth system modeling has become critical to the welfare of people and societies around the world.”

Researchers sponsored by ESRC will utilize KMA’s Cray X1E [vector] supercomputer for their research.  For more info on the partnership, read the full article here.
