OSC Expanding Glenn Supercomputer

The state of Ohio’s controller board recently approved a request from the Ohio Supercomputing Center [OSC] totaling $4 million.  The requested funding will go toward expanding the center’s supercomputer named after astronaut and former Ohio senator, John Glenn.  The IBM 1350 cluster will nearly triple in size to nearly 70Tflops.

With the expansion we will probably be in the top five academic supercomputers in the country and within the top 50 supercomputers in the world,” said Kevin Wohlever, the state agency’s director of supercomputing operations.

OSC hopes to use the new upgrade to land lucrative research grants from the National Institute of Health, among other government agencies.  For more info, read the full article here.
