U of Toronto to Build IBM Super

The University of Toronto and IBM are expected to announce plans to build the fastest supercomputer in Canada.  According to IBM execs near the deal, the machine will come in around 360 Tflops.  The IBM’ers also noted that machine with “combine two systems.”  Does this mean Canada is building a mini-RoadRunner?  Either way, researchers are already gearing up for the new silicon

IBM logoWhat we want to be able to do is make predictions, for example, as to what the nature of the climate change will be that Ontario or Alberta will experience,” [Richard] Peltier [scientific director of UT’s SciNe Consortium] explained. “We want to be regionally specific.”
