DARPA's Tether moves on

The CRA Policy Blog posts news that Anthony Tether, head of DARPA during the second President Bush’s administration, is resigning on the 20th of this month. He began service in June of 2001

Dr. Tony Tether, the longest-tenured Director in DARPA’s 50+ year history and a target of frequent criticism from the computing community and the university community for the direction the agency has taken under his leadership, is apparently out as of February 20, 2009. Tether made the announcement in an email to DARPA staffers.

The email is reproduced in full at the CRA’s site. This news could have an impact on the DoD’s supercomputing efforts, both directly through HPCS and indirectly through relationships with the DoD Mod Program (both are managed by DDR&E).
