Kraken Has Passed Acceptance

The Cray XT5 supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Lab named ‘Kraken’ has officially been accepted by the National Science Foundation as being ready for production.

We had a successful NSF (National Science Foundation) review and the machine is now accepted and turned over to the users for science,” Thomas Zacharia

The Cray XT is currently rated at a peak performance of 615 teraflops, which will later be upgraded to just over 1 petaflop.
