intelAccording to CNET news, Intel is scheduled to publicly release initial details of their next bump in the Xeon server line, codenamed Nehalem-EX.  Sound familiar?  The new Xeon silicon is a continuation of the recently released Nehalem [EP] variant, both based on Intel’s Core i7 technology.  Nehalem-EX is expected to pack 2.3 billion transistors with a maximum of eight cores executing 16 concurrent threads.  Rumor has it, Nehalem-EX is scheduled to ship late 2009 or early 2010.

The announcement is scheduled for May 26, courtesy of Boyd Davis, Intel’s general manager of Server Platforms Marketing Group.  For more info, read the full release here and stay tuned to insideHPC for more details.
