Earth Simulator Update Breaks Efficiency Record

NECNEC’s Earth Simulator System announced the details of a recent series of system upgrades.  The upgrades bumped the total system performance from the original 35Tflops to 131Tflops.  Most impressive was the Linpack efficiency.  The newly revised Earth Simulator was able to achieve 93.38% efficiency, or 122.4Tflops out of a possible 131 on its Linpack run.  According to the current Top500 list, this makes it the most efficienct system in the world.

The Earth Simulator is used by the Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology for predicting developments in global warming and other meteorological computations.   For more info, read the full article here.
