Landmark Virtualises Their Storage Environment

Landmark Solutions, the geospatial wing of Landmark Information Group, has recently implemented a highly virtualised storage environment at the hands of HPC and storage integrator OCF.  The new environment is based around a series of IBM storage products.  The hardware-independent virtualisation platform is IBM’s System Storage SAN Volume Controller [IBM SVC].  This allows Landmark to combine their existing EMC storage with the newly delivered IBM storage to form virtual storage pools.

OCF designed a vendor-independent, scalable, flexible, reliable, virtualized storage environment and, by working in partnership with ISI, ensured the entire environment was up and operational in just three months,” says Cornell. “Additional face-to-face training from OCF, ISI and IBM on one of the products, at IBM’s Hursley development centre, made a real difference to our storage knowledge and ensured we were fully competent using the storage components.”

The virtual storage environment also includes IBM’s General Parallel File System [GPFS], which enables the customer more effective Information Lifecycle Management and a unified namespace.  For more info, read the full release here.
