Japanese Super Figures Pi to 2.5 Trillion Digits

The University of Tsukuba’s T2K Open Supercomputer looks to have set a new Guinness Book World Record for the number of decimals in its calculation of Pi.  Japanese press broke the story on Aug 17th saying the University of Tsukuba’s Center for Computational Sciences reached 2,576,980,377,524 decimals in 73 hours and 36 minutes.  The new decimal figure is more than double the previous record of 1.2 Trillion digits.

The T2K is currently ranked 47th on the Top500 list at roughly 95 teraflops peak.  For more info, read the full article here.
