scalempScaleMP has announced qualification and support for just over ten server platforms based on the latest Intel Xeon processor series [5500, codenamed Nehalem].  The ScaleMP vSMP Foundation now supports Nehalem servers from Appro, Cray, Dell, HP, IBM, Intel, Sun and Supermicro.

I am very happy to say that shortly after launch of the Intel Xeon processor 5500 series by Intel, vSMP Foundation virtualization software was able to support many server offerings utilizing the new Intel Xeon processor 5500 series. A significant number of customers are running these systems in production,” said Shai Fultheim, founder and CEO of ScaleMP. “It is a clear validation of our approach to scalable high-end computing, where virtualization can replace the costly and time consuming approach of building customized high-end systems.”

“The new Intel Server System SR1600UR offers a highly integrated and expandable server system supporting Intel Xeon processor 5500 series, creating a new standard of unsurpassed performance and energy efficiency for the industry,” said Lisa Graff, general manager of Enterprise Platforms and Services Division (EPSD) in the Server Platforms Group, Intel. “With the ability of vSMP Foundation virtualization software to aggregate multiple Intel Xeon processor 5500 series based servers, and create a single shared memory, virtual system, customers are able to scale the power and performance of the new Intel Xeon processor 5500 series processors, and Intel Server Products. This will support large memory and large core count application requirements, while simplifying the management of the system.”

The vSMP Foundation provides up to 4TB of memory and 128 cores in a virtualized SMP.  For more info, read the full release here.
