Supermicro Launches New Six-Core Opteron Solutions

Supermicro has announced a new line of platforms [blades, servers and workstations] based on the AMD Six-Core Opteeron processors [AMD SR5690 and SP5100 chipsets].  The new chipset support brings in PCI-E 2.0 peripheral support.  The quick rollup of new features:

  • GPU-optimized: Support for up to four double-width graphics cards, two cpu’s and up to three additional HPC-centric add-on cards
  • 6Gb/s SAS 2.0 support
  • Universal I/O designs
  • QDR Infiniband support
  • High memory capacity: up to 16 DIMMs in certain models
  • High efficiency VRMs
  • Gold-level power supplies
  • Up to 10 quad-processor [MP] or dual processor [DP] blades in a 7U enclosure
