Fran Berman To Receive Kennedy Award

The Association for Computing Machinery [ACM] and the IEEE Computer Society [IEEE-CS] will jointly present the inaugural Ken Kennedy Award for Cyberinfrastructure Leadership.  Francine Berman, vice president for research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will be recognized as the first recipient for her efforts to build a national cyberinfrastructure.  Citing “her influential leadership in the design, development, and deployment of national-scale cyberinfrastructure,” the ACM and IEEE will jointly present the award to Berman at SC09 in Portland, Oregon.

Berman recently joined Rensselaer from the University of California, San Diego where she served as the High Performance Computing Endowed Chair and director of the San Diego Supercomputer Center.  She is one the two founding principal investigators of the National Science Foundation’s Teragrid project.  She has written 165 articles, editorials and reports on her research spanning high performance computing, grid computing, scheduling, programming environments, middleware, cyberinfrastructure and digital data stewardship.

Congratulations to Dr. Francine Berman for becoming the inaugural recipient of the ACM/IEEE Ken Kennedy Award.  Your tireless efforts are an inspiration to us all.
