The Sun HPC Watercooler posted a link to a really cool project Sun delivered to the Université Laval campus in Quebec. The new HPC system installed there is built within what looks like a grain silo for use in agricultural applications. The interior of the silo just so happened to be an ideal cooling platform for the new machine. The 3-level cylindrical floor plan hosues 56 racks full of compute and storage gear. At the end of the day, Sun helped to increase the compute capacity for university researchers and save a treasured landmark on campus. Very cool.

Nice HPC facility http://bit.ly/6SJNOW using and old Van de Graf silo. All it needs is a ring of park benches around it and it’s a big Cray
