For those who have followed the Sun HPC landscape over the past decade, you’ve probably run into Rich Brueckner from time to time. He can easily be identified with his characteristic Red Hat [think the RedHat Fedora] a the various HPC events around the US. He’s managed ten Supercomputing shows for Sun over the years as well as many other events.
Rich also happens to manage the Sun HPC Watercooler blog. Over the past 1780 stories [which is a lot for a single individual... trust me], Rich has covered quite the smorgasbord of HPC content from Sun HPC products, research, users and partners. Unfortunately, Rich will not be making the transition to Oracle. As such, the final Sun HPC Watercooler post went live on January 29,2010 at 10:24AM.
It’s all good! I’ve had a great 10-year ride here– besides writing this blog (1780 stories!) I had the privilege to manage ten Supercomputing shows and numerous other HPC events for Sun. My only regret is that I will no longer get to work with Sun’s brightest talents and our wonderful customers any longer. [Rich Brueckner]
I personally enjoyed Rich’s Sun HPC roll up every week. I especially enjoyed his work in recording and posting videos from the various Sun HPC events. Everyone will tell you that Supercomputing is far too large to see and hear everything, so video debriefs are a nice way to calmly sip your coffee and take in the HPC goodness post-show.
Thanks to Rich for his tireless efforts in bringing the community the latest in Sun HPC goodness.

Good luck – to a good guy!
Rich good luck. Big lose for Oracle.
Thanks for the kind words, folks! The Watercooler blog was a great project to and I think it was very successful in getting the word out that Sun was a key player in HPC.
I am on the SC10 communications committee as the Social Media manager, so I’m hoping to see all my old friends in New Orleans this year. In the mean time, I can be easily found on Linked-in: http://www.linkedin.com/in/richbrueckner
Cheers,

Having worked with Rich while we were at Cray Research — before he went to SUN, I can say he was a good guy (sans red hat) then too….
Good luck Rich…
