Gropp Elected to National Academy of Engineering

Dr. William Gropp of the University of Illinois was recently elected to the National Academy of Engineering.  He was elected for his contributions to numerical software in the area of linear algebra and high-performance parallel and distributed computation.

This is a significant recognition and prestigious honor for one of our distinguished faculty,” stated Ilesanmi Adesida, dean of the College of Engineering, according to the press release.

Jeff Nichols receives award on behalf of ORNLMany of you also know Gropp for his work in creating and progressing MPI and the MPI standard.  Dr. Gropp is a recipient of the IEEE Computer Society Sidney Fernbach Award honoring innovative uses of high performance computing, and insideHPC’s readers recognized him during SC09 with the inaugural HPC Community Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions to the HPC ecosystem.
