The IEEE Technical committee on Scalable Computing [TCSC] has announced that the 2010 Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing has been awarded to Professor William Gropp.  The award goes to Gropp for his “outstanding contributions to the development of the Message Passing Interface (MPI), scalable implementations of MPI (MPICH-1 and MPICH2), domain decomposition algorithms, and scalable tools for the parallel numerical solution of PDEs (PETSc library).”

The IEEE TCSC Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing was established in 2008 to recognize significant and sustained contributions to the scalable computing community through the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC), coupled with an outstanding record of high quality and high impact research. The award includes a medal and a honorarium of $1000. In the past, IEEE TCSC medal of excellence were awarded to Professor Jack Dongarra (University of Tennessee, USA) in 2008, and Professor Rajkumar Buyya (University of Melbourne, Australia) in 2009.

The award will be presented at the 10th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Grid Computing (CCGrid 2010).  For more info, check out the website here.
