The Boulder County Business Report posted an article detailing the latest stage of approvals associated with the long-awaited NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center.  The National Science Board has officially delivered its approval of the $530 million project.  This clears the project to take a run at the last hurdle: approval by the National Science Foundation.

David Hosansky, a spokesman for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, the nonprofit that manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research, said the board approved the project on May 5. The approval  “authorized the National Science Foundation to move ahead with it (the project),” he said in an e-mail.

Depending upon approval lags from the National Science Foundation, the center could be in operation by late 2011 or early 2012.  The initial build time will consume $66 million and many months dedicated to construction the 150,000 sqft structure in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
