Amazon Announces AWS Free Usage Tier

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Getting into the Cloud just got a whole lot cheaper. Amazon Web Services is introducing a new free usage tier. Beginning November 1, new AWS customers will be able to run a free Amazon EC2 Micro Instance for a year, while also leveraging a new free usage tier for Amazon S3, Amazon Elastic Block Store, Amazon Elastic Load Balancing, and AWS data transfer. According to Amazon, AWS’s free usage tier can be used for anything you want to run in the cloud: launch new applications, test existing applications in the cloud, or simply gain hands-on experience with AWS.

I think this is a brilliant move by Amazon. Let’s hope that Free as in Beer marketing works better for them than it did for Sun Microsystems.

That is hilarious. So how are companies like Penguin, SGI tsunamic Technologies and any other company that have invested in selling cloud computing cycles going to compete with FREE!?!?
