In what could be the first of its kind in Asia, the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore is planning to open its HPC resources for small- and medium-sized businesses through a cloud-based delivery platform. NTU uses HPC mainly for data-intensive research in areas such as animation, rendering, mapping brain activity and business analytics, but now the goal is to make these kinds of computational resources more widely available.

Cloud computing will enable the NTU faculty, research staff and students to access HPC resources easily and will accommodate different computing demands and workloads,” said Soh Yeng Chai, associate dean of NTU’s College of Engineering. “This will place NTU at the forefront of HPC, and hopefully encourage large organisations and SMBs to leverage on HPC’s cloud computing capacity.”

The Nanyang Analytics system clocks in at 28 Tflops or trillion floating point operations per second, making it among the fastest supercomputers in the South-east Asia region.
