HPC News with Snark: April 15, 2011

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It’s April 15 and taxes are all you’re probably worried about today. It’s been an interesting week in HPC, though, so here are the news bits with snark:

  • SC11 proposals for Panels, Papers, and Cluster Competition are due 11:59 Eastern tonight! I’ve got a couple in the works, but now the pressure is on! Details here.
  • LUG Grows up. At LUG’2011, Lustre users wrapped their first community-run annual meeting this week with over 60 member organizations in attendance. That’s up 50 percent from last year, and now the popular open source file system seems to have a unified roadmap going forward. That means no dreaded code fork that worried so many.
  • EDGI Makes Volunteer Computing Easy. EDGI announced a demo of how easy it is to submit 10,000 jobs to a Volunteer Desktop Grid from within the European Grid Infrastructure. This demo at the EGI User Forum this week opens new possibilities for large scale HPC in the cloud.
  • Jobs! We need People Who Need People. Send us your job openings!
    • NCSA: Are you great at your job? Come work for NCSA! In fact, come work for public affairs at NCSA.
    • Linux Kernel Developer. This particular project is exploring ideas which include integrating the distributed shared memory system with the kernel of the Linux-CR project, user-mode Linux. This is an interesting project for someone who really loves both being a researcher and a hands-on coder. Added plus– the recruiter is a sweetie and a fan of my Flex Rex cartoons.
