This week Chris Kemp, the former CTO of NASA and co-founder of OpenStack unveiled a new appliance designed to make it easy for enterprises to build private clouds. Kemp is now CEO of Nebula, a cloud appliance startup that wants to enable small enterprises to adopt that same architecture that we’re seeing in large Internet companies.

Nebula has loaded OpenStack onto an appliance, adding security and management features aimed at making the appliance work well with existing compliance and security procedures in enterprises. Each appliance has a 10GB switch and 48 ports, so 24 2U servers can connect to it.

The Nebula appliance is designed to work with cheap servers that comply with the Facebook Open Compute Project. Read the Full Story or check out this podcast interview with Chris Kemp from February, 2011.
