This week NetApp announced major enhancements to its Lustre-powered E-Series storage platforms for HPC and Big Data applications.

The availability of the ZIB data is of extreme importance for the users and for us and we have been actively evaluating technologies to reduce the window of vulnerability that exists due to the lengthening re-build times of ever-increasing disk drive capacities,” said Frank Schmitz, Chief of Supercomputing Department at Konrad Zuse Center for Information Technology. “We look forward to the Dynamic Disk Pooling technology giving us the tools to dramatically reduce these re-build times and deliver the research and results that our scientists depend on. And the performance under drive failure afforded by the Dynamic Disk Pooling technology is an extra benefit.”

Acquired from LSI last year, the E-Series will be used in the 55 Petabyte storage system for the pending 20 Petaflop Sequoia supercomputer. E-Series systems are available from NetApp as well as a number of OEMs. Read the Full Story.
