What Comes after the K Computer?

Fujitsu shocked the world last year when it unveiled the K computer, a SPARC-powered supercomputer that debuted at #1 on the TOP500 in June 2011. While the system was subsequently upgraded to 10.5 Petaflops, the future of the design was not known. Now Fujitsu has announced that the company is developing a new supercomputer to succeed K.

On Monday, Fujitsu Ltd. President Masami Yamamoto told a shareholders’ meeting in Yokohama that he hopes to regain the top slot in the world rankings in a few years.
