Princeton Researchers at Forefront of Exascale

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Researchers are already working on software for tomorrow’s Exascale systems. With funding from the G8 Research Council’s Initiative on Multilateral Research Funding, Princeton scientists Venkatramani Balaji, Jeroen Tromp, and William Tang are working on new applications that will produce realistic simulations of fusion reactions, earthquakes and climate change.

Working with researchers in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan and Russia, Tang hopes to learn how to better control the behavior of magnetically confined fusion plasmas. Though fusion reactions are responsible for energy release in the universe, harnessing fusion as a clean and sustainable supply of energy on Earth is a major scientific and technological challenge.
