Keoki Kerr from Hawwii News Now reports that the University of Hawaii is protesting the loss of a lucrative contract to manage the Maui Supercomputer Center.
The new contract could be worth as much as $70 million over the next 10 years. In its losing bid, UH partnered with defense contractor Lockheed Martin, which operates four other Defense Department supercomputer centers. The university has questioned the process and has filed a bid protest with the federal government.
As reported here, the winning bid went to SAIC, which is reportedly in the process of hiring personnel to run the supercomputer center in Maui.
Reach out to your senator and cry foul, given the bid was open for over a year I’m sure there were plenty of shenanigans going on.
