Over at Information Week, Doug Clark writes that small companies are beginning to warm up to the idea that large-scale computation available through the cloud can spark innovation and make them more competitive.
I believe that HPC Clouds will appear offering specialist support for specific areas. These will offer HPC as a service and provide industry and academia access to the infrastructure and software, as well as the experts from service providers and academia to deliver HPC Business Process as a Service. This will enable un-skilled companies to take advantage of HPC techniques. So as many already know, maybe the hidden value in this ‘free’ apps and services is more valuable in analytical terms than just the annoying advert revenues – you have a perpetual consumer focus group at you fingertips and, with HPC in the cloud, the power to learn from that unmined resource.
