New HPC Wales Studentship Funding to Power Innovative Research

Newly-funded PhD Student Farzana Rahman is using supercomputing technology to develop a model that predicts how harmless bacteria develops into deadly strains such as E Coli 0157, which can result in kidney failure in children.

HPC Wales has announced six new funded PhD studentships in computational science at Welsh universities, increasing their total investment attracted into Wales to £2 million.

The new fully-funded studentships, subject to contractual agreements, will power innovative research in the financial and professional services, advanced materials and manufacturing, creative industries and ICT sectors. Funded in part by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, HPC Wales is committed to boosting the Welsh economy by providing academic researchers and businesses with some of the most advanced computing technology in the world.
