hatnewsThe Ivy Bridge architecture for servers was the shining star at the Intel Developer Forum this week, and it seems the whole computing ecosystem was in lock-step with their own related announcements. Here’s our insideHPC news roundup.

  • Colfax International announced support for the Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v2 product family across its entire line-up of ServEdge servers and ProEdge workstations. The new processors feature 50% (up to 12C) more cores, 50% (up to 30MB) more last level cache that combined with new 22nm manufacturing process deliver up to 50% more performance and up to 45% more energy efficiency compared to the previous generation of Intel Xeon processors.
  • Cray announced that the new Intel Xeon processors will be featured across the complete line of Cray XC30 and Cray CS300 products, including both air and liquid cooled models.
  • HP announced Ivy Bridge enhancements to their Z Workstations, but didn’t have much to say about HPC after being booted from the Dow Jones Industrial Average yesterday.
  • IBM rolled out its System x3650 M4 HD, headlining a broad refresh of the entire System x core server portfolio of two-socket systems including System x racks and towers, Flex System, iDataPlex, and BladeCenter offerings. All of these offerings will feature the Ivy Bridge product family, providing performance increases of up to 45 percent.
  • Mellanox announced that Ivy Bridge processors enable up to 30 percent better performance on applications running with the company’s FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand solutions.
  • SGI rolled out Ivy Bridge enhancements to its ICE X, Infinite Storage, and Rackable server lines. Check out our RichReport Slidecast for more information.
  • Supermicro is on board as well, with Ivy Bridge architecture advancements in FatTwin, TwinPro and SAS3 12Gb/s solutions. As reported here, their motherboards are also being used to power the new Boston Venom 2401-7T, which may just be the world’s fastest workstation.
