GEOINT Conference Postponed Due to Government Shutdown

WPTV_Government_Shutdown_20130929175934_320_240In what may be the shape of things to come, the GEOINT Symposium has postponed their conference until Spring of 2014 as a result of the Government Shutdown. The conference, which is the nation’s largest intelligence event, was to take place October 13-16 in Tampa.

USGIF is simply unable to commence and maintain the event in its original scope. Given the absence of government speakers from our program and the absence of government customers from our exhibit hall, we have no choice but to postpone the 10th Annual GEOINT Symposium to spring 2014.

Ironically, the GEOINT conference put out a press release just a week ago promising to soldier on in the wake of the government shutdown.

In related news, SC13 conference chair Bill Gropp has posted a show-must-go-on letter to attendees with a promise to waive the conference cancellation fees for those directly affected by the impasse in Washington.

At insideHPC, we will continue to track this story, as federal customers are a big reason that many exhibitors come to the SC conference series. At the same time, exhibitors such as NASA are mostly on furlough at the moment and that could lead to some big empty islands on the show floor.
