In this slidecast, OpenACC President Duncan Poole leads a panel of speakers describing the latest additions to OpenACC. Speakers include Oscar Hernandez from ORNL, Nathan Sidwell from Mentor Graphics, and Michael Wolfe from PGI.

Three new institutions have recently joined OpenACC as members including Louisiana State University, Mentor Graphics Corporation and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They join 15 other HPC leaders from around the world at the forefront of applications development for accelerator-enabled systems.

In a related development, Mentor Graphics revealed that OpenACC extensions will be supported in mainstream GCC compilers. “Development of robust OpenACC support from within GCC brings high-level programming of accelerators and coprocessors to the most widely-used compilers in the HPC community,” said Duncan Poole, President of OpenACC.org. “The addition of an open-source platform is critical for the broader adoption of heterogeneous programming that will be necessary for the next stage of growth and innovation in HPC and as a foundation to drive software development for Exascale systems.”

OpenACC 2.0 is an important milestone for the specification because its features address several of our application developer’s needs to port codes to Titan using OpenACC. This, together with GCC support, will help the adoption of directives-based APIs to program accelerators on different platforms. Our users are eager to start using the new OpenACC 2.0 features available on different compilers,” said David Bernholdt, Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility Lead for Programming Environment and Tools.
