Today the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC’14) announced two key appointments to its management structure:

  • Prof. Dr. Arndt Bode

    Prof. Dr. Arndt Bode

Prof. Dr. Dr. Arndt Bode has been appointed as the ISC Program Chair in 2015. This appointment underscores the management’s aspiration to promote diversity. It also brings to light the contribution of community members who play an instrumental role in advancing the field of high performance computing. With the passing of the conference founder, Prof. Dr. Hans Meuer, who acted as the ISC General Chair up to last year, the ISC management team has decided to create the position of an ISC Program Chair, which will rotate annually. Starting in 2015 with Prof. Bode, a new chair will be appointed each year. They will be actively involved in assisting the ISC program team and steering committee in designing the conference program. Their research interest and focus will be reflected in the scientific program, thus diversifying ISC’s future topics of interests.

  • Dr. Ing. Bernd Mohr

    Dr. Ing. Bernd Mohr

Dr. Ing. Bernd Mohr, a senior scientist at the Juelich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) responsible for user support and training, has joined the ISC team as an ISC Executive Consultant. Mohr will continue to divide his time between his existing tasks at JSC and ISC. A well-known and highly respected member of the European HPC community, Bode presently chairs the Board of Directors of the Leibniz Supercomputing Center of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He served as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer of the Technical University of Munich from 1999 to 2008, where he developed concepts for seamless IT infrastructures for universities. His primary research centers on computer engineering. He is also the editor-in-chief of Informatik-Spektrum, the official magazine of the German Informatics Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik). In addition to that he has authored five books on various topics of high performance computing.

Acting as conference general co-chairs, Martin Meuer and Thomas Meuer will continue their executive roles in managing the ISC conferences. Martin and Thomas have been in charge of the daily operations since 2004, playing a pivotal role in building the current ISC team and expanding Prometeus’ other conferences, particularly ISC Cloud and ISC Big Data.

Hans would have been very pleased with the appointment of Prof. Bode, as he had a very high regard for Prof. Bode’s work and contributions to the German Informatics Society. It is our sincere wish to see our future program chairs, our internal program team and the steering committee working together to design future conference programs for the benefit of a larger community,” said ISC General Co-Chair and Managing Director, Thomas Meuer.

ISC’14 has opened Early Registration. Open to engineers, IT specialists, systems developers, vendors, end users, scientists, researchers, students and other members of the HPC global community, the event will take place June 22-26 in Leipzig, Germany.
