We continue to see HPC technologies packaged up for the enterprise. This week Mellanox announced that its ConnectX-3 10/40Gb RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) and FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand Network Interface Cards (NICs) power DataON Storage Cluster-in-a-Box appliances. The Mellanox-DataON collaboration provides Microsoft customers with improved I/O, hot-tiered data storage performance, higher efficiency with ultra-low latency and with dramatic CapEx and OpEx savings.

DataON Storage has a strong history of working closely with software-defined storage communities,” said Trenton R. Baker, vice president business development, DataON Storage. “We’re excited to bring the DataON CiB platform leveraging RDMA enabled adapters from Mellanox to the software-defined Windows Server 2012 R2 community, by providing the optimal throughput needed for successful auto-tiering storage deployments.”
