Today Bright Computing announced a significant update to its distribution-agnostic Bright Cluster Manager for Apache Hadoop at the Hadoop Summit North America 2015. By expanding its automation of deployment, monitoring and ongoing management, Version 7.1 of Bright Cluster Manager for Apache Hadoop makes it easier than ever to manage Hadoop clusters of all sizes in a variety of environments. The software is fully integrated with the latest versions of the leading Hadoop distributions, and data-platform applications, so customers can easily deploy a Hadoop cluster that is tailored to their needs. Those looking to pair Hadoop with HPC can allocate resources to deploy, monitor, and manage both the Hadoop and HPC stacks from a single instance of the Bright GUI. One example of just such a hybrid system is Tulane University’s Cypress supercomputer.

Version 7.1 of Bright Cluster Manager for Apache Hadoop fully integrates the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), the ZooKeeper coordination service, and YARN the workload manager via the latest distributions of vanilla Apache Hadoop, Cloudera CDH, Hortonworks HDP, and Pivotal HD. This newest release includes an overlay capability that makes it easier to flexibly configure and manage sets of Hadoop nodes, perform context-appropriate maintenance tasks on a per-component basis, and leverage transparent, end-to-end encryption in HDFS (e.g., including support for encryption zones). Finally, fully integrated support for Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache Sqoop, and Apache Sqoop2 emphasizes Bright Computing’s commitment towards a comprehensive platform for Big Data Analytics.
