In this video from ISC 2015, Bill Nitzberg from Altair describes why PBS Professional 13.0 is the biggest release yet for the company. PBS Professional is Altair’s market-leading workload manager and job scheduler for high-performance computing environments, used by thousands of companies worldwide to improve productivity, optimize resource utilization & efficiency, and simplify the process of cluster workload management.

The industry needs to accomplish a lot in the coming years to deliver a working, useful exascale machine. PBS Pro is only one piece of the puzzle… but it’s an important piece. Job scheduling and workload management are core capabilities – a “must have” for every HPC system – ensuring HPC goals are met by enforcing site-specific use policies, enabling users to focus on science and engineering rather than IT, and optimizing utilization (of hardware, licenses, and power) to minimize waste.”

pbsNitzberg also highlights the upcoming PBS Works User Group Meeting, which takes place Sept. 14-17 in Silicon Valley. At the event, engineers, IT administrators, cluster managers, and users of HPC systems will have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with the best minds in supercomputing.

These open forums are really valuable for both users and Altair,” according to Bill Nitzberg, PBS Works CTO. “Attendees can learn about our plans and give truly uncensored feedback directly to the engineering teams. It’s a great chance for the whole community to learn from each other.”
