oldtownsquareThe HiPEAC16 High Performance and Embedded Architecture and Compilation conference returns to Prague next week. With three keynote talks, 33 workshops, nine tutorials, and 37 papers, the three-day conference takes place January 18-20.

HiPEAC will bring together the best minds in computer architecture and compilation to tackle the key issues facing the computing systems on which we depend. Low energy consumption takes centre stage, with experts showcasing solutions that will maximize the performance to power ratio. Other areas include security, which is of increasing concern as connected devices begin to pervade every aspect of our lives, as well as looking to the future of ubiquitous computing and the Internet of Things.

“More than ever, we need collaboration to find solutions for the grand challenges in computing,” says HiPEAC coordinator Koen de Bosschere of Ghent University. “Only interdisciplinary teams consisting of computer architects and software experts from industry and academia will be able to find solutions to create the next generation of computing systems. This conference is the yearly mega-brainstorm for the European computing systems community,” he adds.

HiPEAC’s role as a hub for leading thinkers is in evidence with a comprehensive program of activities, highlighting how European research is providing answers to some of the thorniest challenges in embedded and high-performance computing. Keynotes from well-known experts Ruby Lee (Princeton University), Krisztian Flautner (ARM) and Valentina Salapura (IBM) will discuss security-aware architecture, the Internet of Things and high-availability cloud. A series of 42 workshops and tutorials will present, among other things:

The conference will also see the launch of the latest incarnation of the HiPEAC project, now in its 11th year, which will build on past successes by offering members communications and recruitment services to ensure the potential of European research is fully realized. It will highlight HiPEAC’s central role as an engine for translating research into value, featuring spin-off companies from European projects, such as software specialist emmtrix Technologies commercializing the results of the ALMA project, as well as the winners of the HiPEAC Tech Transfer Awards. A recruitment booth will be available at the conference, helping companies match European talent to their needs.
